APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

The purpose of this scheme is to increase the supply of skilled workers for the industry; jointly determined by PSMB and the industry concerned. The scheme also enables employers registered with PSMB to be actively involved. The apprentices are selected from PMR or SPM school leavers. The training is a combination of theoretical and practical training at approved training centres with an emphasis on practical training and structured “on-the-job” training at the premises of sponsoring employers.

The curriculum have been developed on a modular basis. After the completion of a combination of modules at the training centres, apprentices will undergo on-the-job training at the premises of sponsoring employers to reinforce the theoretical concepts learnt. The duration of training ranges from 6 months to 18 months, depending on the requirement of the industry.

Training fees incurred will be fully paid by PSMB. The apprentices will be given a monthly allowance of between RM350.00 - RM500.00 and an insurance coverage by the sponsoring employers. Sponsoring employers are eligible to claim financial assistance at the rate of 100% of the allowable costs, (apprentices’ monthly allowances, insurance coverage and consumables, if applicable).

Upon the successful completion of training, apprentices will be awarded the Malaysian Skills Certificate Level 1 and 2 by the Department of Skills Development and Apprenticeship Certificates issued by PSMB.

HOW TO APPLY (SPONSORING EMPLOYERS)

a)      Fill up form PSMB/SP/2/01.

b)      Employers will conduct interviews to select the candidates and successful  candidates are required to sign apprenticeship contracts with the  sponsoring employers.

c)       Two (2) copies of apprenticeship contracts for each apprentice duly filled,  signed and stamped must be sent to PSMB.
